“We Christians cannot stand with arms folded in indifference. As believers, we must stretch out our hands as Jesus does with us, freely and lovingly offering help to the poor and all those in need” .... Pope Francis, 18th Nov 2018, World Day of the Poor.

With these words from the Holy Father in mind, a group of 12 (twelve) Form 5 Confirmation students from the Church of The Visitation came together to help out in the SSVP’s Ration Day. The outreach activity held on 2nd April 2019, was part of their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation due in June. According to Louise Yeow of SSVP, this was the 3rd year Confirmation students were invited to participate in such activity.

Wearing their Confirmation t-shirt, the students teamed up with SSVP members in the packing of rations (dried and canned food items) at the church’s recreation corner. They were then divided in 3 (three) groups, each accompanied by SSVP members to deliver the rations at various location. The areas that they visited were Temiang, Lobak, Labu, Rasah and Mambau.

While being thankful for the students’ participation although a short one, SSVP hope that they have experienced something to be remembered and may one day consider joining the Society when they are working adults.

A word of thanks to Louise Yeow for the photos and information.
