Soar Like An Eagle - Retreat

Soar Like An Eagle!

The PMEIA (Parish Ministry of Ecumenical and Inter-religious Affairs) of the Church of the Visitation, Seremban organized a retreat on a diocese level with the theme ‘Soar Like An Eagle’ was held from the 6th August 2022 at the Visitation Hall. Parish priest, Fr Xavier Andrew was the retreat master The retreat saw about 100 participants from all the representative from the different parishes in the Archdiocese. The retreat was from 8am - 5.30pm which includes sessions, fellowship and ended with an hour of adoration.

We started with praise and worship by the youths of the parish and started off with ‘Arise From Your Sleep’ as the first session. Fr Xavier quoted in Isaiah 60:1 “Arise, shine, for your light has come and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. He continues to say that we have to stay awake and be ready! He quoted in Romans 13:11 “And do this understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, beacause our salvation is nearer now than we first believe. Fr continues to say the 4 categories of people. The categories are the sleepers, snoozers, gazers and wakers. The sleepers are the ones who sleep through life. Even if you don’t pray, you have to attend to the needs of the family, your work as well. The snoozers are the people who want to make a change, but just not today. Procrastination starts to take place. The gazers are people who want to make a change and they make a change but when challenges come, they fall into their old ways. In our spiritual realm, when challenges creep in. We choose not to continue my journey towards God. Lastly the waker are the ones who get up and look up because if you’re focused and prepared you have to look ahead. Fr then questions us by saying ‘Are you a sleeper, snoozer, gazers or the wakers? So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober quoted from 1 Thessalonians 5:6.

The next session was ‘Awakening The Soul’. Fr Xavier quoted in Psalms 46:10 “He says, “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth”.  There are many ways to awaken the soul of ours but ultimately sitting and spending time at the feet of the Lord is far more important. If you do so the fruit is love, joy, peace, forebarance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness as quoted in Galatians 5:22. Some of us are so busy ‘doing’ but ‘being’ is far more important. In Matthew 16:26 “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?

The last sessioon was ‘Take Flight and Soar’. Fr Xavier quoted in Isaiah 40:28-31 “Do you know? Have not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no once can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increase the poer of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young man stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagle; they will run and grow weary. They will walk and not be faint. He continues to say that we have to persevere in our spiritual life in order to be an eagle to soar the heavens. The eagle is one the powerful bird in the sea and if you realize that you don’t see an eagle like how you see other birds always. This is because the eagles are flying alone and it’s soaring high up in the heavens. Fr continues to qouted from Ezekial 1:24-25 ‘When the creatures moved, I heard the sound of their wings, like the roar of rushing waters, like the voice of the Almighty, like the tumult of an army. When they stood, they lowered their wings. There came a voice from above the vault over their heads as they stood with lowered wings. Lastly, Fr tells us to be like an eagle not just for a day but every moment of our lives to become who God wants us to be.

After the last session, Fr Xavier led them into a time of adoration with mediation and healing prayer which concludes with benediction. It was indeed a spirit-filled session.
