THE VISITATION SENIOR PARISHIONERS FELLOWSHIP (VSPF) HELD ON SUNDAY 14 August 2022
AUGUST FELLOWSHIP: BRIEF OVERVIEW OF VSPF AND BOARD GAMES
Visitation Senior Parishioners gathered again on Sunday 14 August 2022 at 4.30p.m. The highlight of the fellowship were:
1. Brief Overview of the Visitation Senior Parishioners Fellowship (VSPF)
2. Board Games.
A brief overview on the Visitation Senior Parishioners Fellowship (VSPF) was given by Bro. George Lim, the founder of VSPF. The briefing was for the benefit of new members who joined the VSPF in 2022. Bro. George Lim talked on the following:
Aim: To have closer fellowship, caring and sharing among senior parishioners in Visitation Church.
Vision: A family of happy, caring and sharing senior parishioners in Visitation Church
Mission: To tap and release the unknown/known talents of senior parishioners to be shared and appreciated by others.
The Need: It was seen that there were many senior parishioners in the Visitation Church. They were there at mass or praying quietly in church. Then, we did not see them …. they disappeared … they seemed to have something urgent to do. There was no fellowship among the senior parishioners other than an occasional “Hi!”, “How are you?” and “Fine”, which was the usual reply. It was hoped then, that Visitation Senior Parishioners Fellowship may hopefully fill the ‘vacuum’ or givean ‘Oomph’ in parishioners’ later years of life. You are old, if you think you are. You are useless, if you think you are. You are lonely, if you think you want to be alone. No man is an Island. Life is how you make of it. Make life enjoyable while you still can. There may come a time when you cannot enjoy life. That is when, the fellowship you have with your fellow parishioners will bring you comfort and joy. We are our brothers keeper. Let us be concerned Catholics!
Activities
The VSPF comes under the umbrella of the Family Life Ministry of the Visitation Church. Our activities include:
- Physical Health e.g. walking, Tai chi, talks etc.
- Social e.g. music, dancing, singing
- Hobby e.g. gardening, cooking, sewing, cleaning
- Welfare e.g. counselling, visit the sick and homebound
- Outings e.g. visit places of interest, picnic, pilgrimage
Membership is open to all parishioners from the age of 50 and above.
Our Fellowship is held on the 2nd Sunday of each month from 4.30p.m to 6.30pm. It was an informative overview of the VSPF. Members listened with interest and enthusiasm.
Board Games were introduced as an activity for the first time in the fellowship’s program. Members had an enjoyable session of playing mahjong, snakes and ladders and an optic game called finding Jesus.The fellowship continued with tea, chit chat, sing along, birthday and wedding anniversary songs and blessings. The fellowship came to an end at 6.30p.m
